Villa d’Este was built in 1550 by Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este, its Italian-style garden is an artistic marvel with its numerous water features, nymphs, and grottoes. Hadrian’s Villa, which belonged to the Roman emperor Hadrian, is still well preserved today and testifies to the extraordinary level of skill of Roman architecture.
