The Botanical and the Borromeo Palace of Isola Madre - Maggiore Lake

One of the oldest botanical gardens in Italy, it benefits from a microclimate favorable to wisteria, subtropical plants, exotic flowers and brightly coloured birds; colourful parrots. Chinese pheasants and peacocks are easily spotted. The park is set on several terraces, enabling visitors to admire rarities like the bicentennial Kashmir Cypress and a Jubaeae Spectabilis Palm which will soon be 125 years old. The interior of the palace has been reconstructed with antique furniture; it’s also possibile to visit the famous Dolls’ Room, the Seasons’ Room and the Hall dedicated to antique puppets and puppet theatre exhibition.
